Myrtle found “her person!” It isn’t me.
I’m fine with it, because Myrt’s “person” isn’t Ty either.
Had she chosen one of us over the other, it would’ve been beyond offensive :)
Instead, Myrtle has fallen in love with Ty’s mother, who recently relocated to Phoenix.
We’re not sure what it is, but we’re thrilled. Myrtle is actually wagging at the sight of another human being. What a concept!
When she walks into our home, Myrtle yelps and starts running around wagging. She’s still timid at first, but eventually wiggles over to be pet.
When we go over to my mother-in-law’s house, Myrtle has the same behavior, running around the yard, wagging.
It helps that her scraggly pal, Max is there. He weighs all of 10 pounds, and has a permanent smile on his face. They wrestle and run around like normal dogs, so we get them together almost daily.
Oddly, Myrtle developed a habit of dunking her head in the pool. She’s never been swimming, which was clear from the first time she fell into the water. She flailed a little, but was able to maneuver herself to the steps. It didn’t scare her (which is odd, since literally everything scares her).
Now, each morning if she’s there, she’ll take a drink from the pool, and then dunk her head, or jump in to the first step. Maybe to cool off?
Myrtle will even take treats from Ty’s mom. Again, we’re not sure what the magic is, but it’s nice to see her happy… even if we’re not the ones bringing her joy.
Maybe she likes women better?
She’s switched back over to dry food, combined with scrambled eggs. I’m hoping they’ll fatten her up a bit?
Unfortunately, Myrtle is still on anxiety meds. We’ll reevaluate the need in the coming months. I think she wouldn’t need them at all if she moved in with my mother-in-law!
