Visit Mont Saint-Michel // A guide to the ancient abbey in Northern France

Mont Saint-Michel has been on my bucket list since I first saw it in a book in French class. I finally made the trip there this year, and was surprised to find it much easier than expected!

From Paris, I suggest taking the train up to Caen. From there, you can easily rent a car from the train station and drive the rest of the way through Normandie to the coast.

You can stay in the small town on the rocks below the abbey, or on the mainland. It's connected to Mont Saint-Michel by a newer bridge, which you can walk or take a shuttle over.

You'll learn about the hermit monks who first settled here in the 700s, and its history as everything from a prison during the French Revolution to a lookout for Nazis during World War 2.
